Takami has previously been awarded 1st place in a tattoo contest at the New York City Tattoo Convention last year. Cova was also awarded 1st place for the 'Best Tattoo Designs Sheet' in the New Jersey Tattoo Convention. I asked Takami a few short questions. Here is what he had to say...

How do you compare the Japanese style of tattoos to the Western way?

They both have elements that are both are good, both are great in their own different ways.

Tell me your most unusual / interesting tattoo story!

I had a challenge with another tattoo artist to see what the largest tattoo I could do in one sitting. It was to be finished in one go or I had to fight against Shige of Yellow Blaze Tattoo Studio in Yokohama. I worked for 15 hours non stop and luckily came out the winner... :-)

* For those who are not familiar with Shige. He and his family travel all over the world for international tattoo conventions. Shige continues to be inspired by the tattooists that he meets and the various regional cultures he encounters. Shige has been seeking for, expressing, and creating his own styles, which are based on Japanese traditional and historical materials. Watch this space for more soon...
